Every Hub has its own homepage. A new Hub starts with a Banner Applet at the top and a Timeline Applet below it, and you can make it your own from there.
This guide will walk you through editing your Hub's details, updating its banner and adding applets to its homepage.
This guide covers:
- Editing your Hub's name and description
- Updating the banner
- Adding applets to your Hub homepage
- Considerations, tips & guidance
Before you start:
- You need to be an Owner of the Hub.
Editing your Hub's name and description
- Go to your Hub, select the three dots next to the title and select Edit.
- Update the name and description (and, for an Area Hub, its area), then save your changes.
Updating the banner
- Select the three dots next to the title and select Edit Homepage.
-
Hover over the banner and select its three dots to change the image and text.
Note: The banner image is also used as your Hub's thumbnail on the Hubs Overview page. Alternatively, you can create a custom banner using Snippets or your own code, however this will not show as the image thumbnail.
Adding applets to your Hub homepage
The Hub toolbox includes 14 applets, many of which you'll know from editing other homepages, such as the Content Applet, Tag Cloud, Tabs, Latest News and Events.
- Select Edit Homepage from the three dots next to the title.
- Open the pencil toolbox and add, move or remove applets as you would on any other homepage. The layout can't be changed, but there are plenty of spaces where applets can go.
- Save your changes.
Considerations, tips & guidance
- Keep the Timeline central: the Timeline is where the conversation happens, so keep it prominent in the centre of the page. It can fit into a single column, but people will need to scroll more.
- Put other applets above the Timeline: the Timeline grows as people post, so applets placed below it may never be seen.
- Be consistent with banners: using the same type of banner on every Hub keeps the Hubs Overview looking tidy.
- Keep it simple: often a clear name, a short description and an eye-catching banner image are all a Hub needs.
