A Hub is a discussion space where people can get together and talk about anything. You can use Hubs as a collaborative business tool, a fun way to drive engagement, or a bit of both. You decide the subject, who can join and who can post in each Hub.
Posts in a Hub can also be shown in a homepage Timeline, so conversations reach even more people.
This guide will walk you through how people find Hubs, the two types of Hub, and how to choose the right one.
This guide covers:
Before you start:
- The Hubs application must be switched on. See How to enable the Hubs application.
Accessing Hubs
- Go to the Hubs Overview by adding /hubs to the end of your site address.
- To help people find Hubs, add a link to your navigation menu, add Hubs as a Tool, or link to specific Hubs from anywhere on your site.
The two types of Hub
- Community Hubs are for open discussions, which may or may not be work-related. They sit outside your site structure and are visible to everyone. People join by signing up or by asking to join.
- Area Hubs are linked to a specific area of your site and are designed for teams or groups, such as an office or project. The owner can add groups of people directly, and can make the Hub Private so that people can't ask to join.
Once set up, both types appear on the Hubs Overview page and are customised and used in the same way.
Choosing the right type of Hub
- Choose a Community Hub for a general discussion space that people can join if they want to. See How to create a Community Hub.
- Choose an Area Hub to link the discussion to a location, area or team, set membership up front, or stop uninvolved people from joining. See How to create an Area Hub.
Considerations, tips & guidance
- Linking to Hubs: a link to the Hubs application takes people to the Hubs Overview, while a link to a specific Hub takes them straight to that Hub's homepage.
