Oak has built-in support for several languages. System controls and labels can be shown in UK or US English, Arabic, Dutch, French, German, Portuguese, Spanish and Welsh.
You can set the language for the whole company, for a specific area, or for an individual user. If different languages are set at different levels, the most specific one wins: an area setting overrides the company setting, and a user's personal choice overrides both.
This guide will walk you through changing the language for an area or for yourself.
This guide covers:
Before you start:
- To change the language for the company or an area, you need the Area Manager permission for that area.
- Anyone can change their own language.
- This changes Oak's system controls and labels. To translate your own homepages and content, see How to translate homepages and content.
Changing the language for the company or an area
- Go to the Actions button > Configure > Manage Areas.
- Select the area to open its Manage menu. Choose the top level for the whole organisation, or an office if you have regional sites. Select Edit.
- Choose the Language from the dropdown and select OK.
4. The change applies straight away. Users will see the new language the next time they load or refresh a page.
Changing your own language
- Select your profile picture in the top right and select Settings.
- Under Preferences, choose your Site Language from the dropdown and select OK. Oak reloads straight away in your chosen language.
