Keep your Oak intranet up to date when teams, offices or departments change their names. Nobody likes outdated information, and renaming an area takes just a few clicks.
This guide will walk you through renaming an area and what to check if your user data is synchronised from Entra ID (formerly Active Directory) or managed by spreadsheet.
This guide covers:
Before you start:
- You need the Area Manager permission for the area you want to rename.
- If Entra ID (Active Directory) synchronisation is switched on, switch it off before making the change. See How to switch Entra ID (Active Directory) synchronisation off and back on.
- If you manage your user data with a spreadsheet import, update the area name in your spreadsheet too.
Renaming an area
- Go to the Actions button > Configure, then under Site Structure select Manage Areas.
- Find the area you want to rename in the list. Select the area name, then select Edit.
-
Enter the new name, select OK, then select Close. The area will now show its new name across your intranet.
Considerations, tips & guidance
- Shortcut from the area: you can also open Manage Areas from the area's homepage using the page options menu in the top right. Oak takes you straight to that area, as long as you have permission for it.
- Using Entra ID (Active Directory) synchronisation: update the area name in Entra ID before switching synchronisation back on, otherwise your change may be overwritten.
- Using a spreadsheet import: make sure the new area name is in your spreadsheet before the next import or sync.
