Building homepages from scratch takes time. If you already have a homepage that's close to what you need, you can clone it and just make a few changes.
Cloning is especially handy when several areas share similar information and layouts, such as offices or departments.
This guide will walk you through cloning a homepage, whether or not the area already has one.
This guide covers:
- Cloning a homepage into an area with no homepage
- Cloning a homepage into an area that already has one
- Considerations, tips & guidance
Before you start:
- Your Oak site needs areas to hold homepages. To create areas, you need the Area Management permission.
- You will also need to be assigned the Homepage Manager permission for the area you are creating homepages.
Cloning a homepage into an area with no homepage
If an area doesn't have a homepage yet, it shows a list of the content published to it.
- Go to the area, select the three dots in the top-right corner, then select Create a homepage.
- Scroll past the blank templates to or duplicate from an existing homepage.
- Select the homepage you want to clone. Top tip: Use the shortcut Ctrl + F to quickly search for the homepage you'd like to clone.
- Make your homepage changes, then select Publish in the top-right corner. As there isn't already a live homepage, it will immediately become the main homepage and be visible to the people who have the Content Viewer permission for the area.
Cloning a homepage into an area that already has one
- Go to the area, select the three dots in the top-right corner, then select Manage homepages.
- On the right, select Create a scheduled homepage.
- Scroll past the blank templates to Or duplicate from an existing homepage, then select the homepage you want to clone.
- Make your changes, then select Publish. You'll be taken to the homepage manager.
- Your cloned homepage will show under Inactive scheduled homepages. It's named after the area, followed by a number.
-
To make it the area's main homepage, select the three dots next to it, then select Set as main homepage.
- If you'd like to keep the main homepage the same but make it the homepage for a specific audience, click on the eye icon and select the user group(s). The scheduled homepage will then become active for the selected audience. Remember to select Save at the bottom.
- To rename the homepage, select the name, type a new one and select Save.
