The induction tour introduces new employees to your intranet homepage the very first time they log in. It’s an ideal tool for onboarding new hires or welcoming employees to a fresh site. In this guide, you'll learn how to set up your tour and get key tips to ensure a seamless setup.
Before you start
- You must be assigned the System Manager permission at the main business level to create a tour
- The induction tour covers the main business level/homepage, calling out the applets that are visible to an employee; if the applet doesn't show as part of their homepage due to scheduled homepages or permissions, then they won't see it within the tour. If you'd like to create tours for individual areas, you can do so by going to the homepage and selecting the page options (three dots) in the top-right corner, followed by Manage Tour.
Building the induction tour
- Navigate to the Actions button > Configure > Site Settings.
- Click into Branding and select the Induction Tour tab.
- To begin setting up the induction tour, toggle on 'Would you like users who have never logged in to be shown a tour?' When this is toggled on, more options will appear below.
- You can allow users to skip the tour for direct access to the intranet. Toggling this on will provide an X icon to skip.
Toggle on 'Would you like a welcoming step?' to add a welcome message before the tour begins. The title is optional, whereas the message is required.
Note: Adding step-by-step instructions is completely optional. If you prefer, you can simply add a welcome message with helpful details about the intranet.
Select + Add Step and choose your target from the drop-down.
The first group of targets are included by default. As you scroll down the list of targets, you'll find all of the applets that appear on the different scheduled homepages under the main business area. If it appears on only the main homepage/scheduled homepage, the homepage title will be in brackets. For applets included on more than one homepage, you'll see '(On 3 homepages)' beside the target.
Note: If you select an applet that is not available on a user's scheduled homepage, or permissions are preventing them from seeing it, then the applet won't be called out during their induction tour.
- Add an optional title followed by the required message. Once the message has been added, the left-hand side of the step will change from red to green to show the completed step.
- Add as many steps as required and don't forget to select Save at the bottom as you go along. You don't need to publish just yet; return back to the draft later on.
Note: If no tour is published and you navigate away, when you return you'll need to toggle the tour back on to reveal your draft.
- Before publishing, click the Preview as button and select a user from the user picker. Hit confirm to preview the entire tour as them.
- Once published, the tour will go live for all users who have never logged in.
- To show the induction tour to all users upon their next login, click Reset Audience and confirm your choice.
