Adding new areas helps build out your site structure and keeps your content neatly organised. You can create up to 7 area types beneath the main business level, ranging from department and offices to projects and folders.
This guide walks you through adding new areas at different levels of your site structure, along with key configuration options.
Before you start
- To add a new area beneath the main business level, you must be assigned the Area Manager role for that area. Similarly, to add child areas further down the structure, you will need Area Manager permissions for the specific parent area.
Creating a new area
-
Navigate to the Actions button > Configure. From the panel, select Manage Areas. Alternatively, go to the main homepage and select the page options (three dots) in the top right corner, followed by Manage Areas.
-
You'll see the current site structure on the left-hand side of the screen. Click into the different areas to view and manage the members, permissions and homepages. Selecting the business in the top-left corner will allow you to view and manage the main business area.
Hit the arrow icon next to the business to return back to the site structure overview. -
To add a new area directly beneath the main business level, click the + button at the bottom of the column.
-
If you'd like to add a new child-area, click on the parent area to open a new column (level of structure) followed by the + button at the bottom of the row, or select the + button to the right of the area.
-
When creating a new area, you'll be presented with a list of available area types. The available areas will vary depending on the area you are creating it in (for example, it's not possible to create a department within a folder).
-
Provide the area with a name and description. This is a great place to add key search terms to boost the area's relevance and ensure it appears higher up in the search results.
-
Assign an optional manager; this may be someone you would like to assign responsibility or ownership of the area.
-
If required, add an optional reference ID to help you easily identify it.
-
To speed things up, decide if you would like the new area to inherit the permissions from the parent area by ticking Copy security settings from [parent area].
-
Select OK at the bottom to save the area. If permissions have not been inherited, click into your newly created area and go to Permissions. Use Simplified Permissions for a quick set-up, or jump into the Advanced security to set them at a more granular level.
